Engine Management Light Check
The engine management light can alert you to an issue with your vehicle and having this appear can be of some concern, but how serious is it and what actions do you need to take.
Commonly known as the "check engine light," the engine management light (EML) is a dashboard indicator that turns on when there is a problem with your vehcles engine, exhaust, or emissions system. The EML is a general warning that something is wrong with your vehicle rather than a specific issue like a "low coolant" or "check oil level" message or light would be.
Modern vehicles are fitted with on-board sensors which can monitor how the engine and other components are performing including:
Spark Plugs or Ignition Coils
When one of your spark plugs or ignition coils is malfunctioning, the check engine light will also often turn on. It's possible that something isn't firing properly, which could result in decreased engine performance, and the check engine light is alerting you to the issue.
Oxygen Sensors
Oxygen sensors are part of your emissions system and are used to identify problems with the exhaust. The check engine light would most likely come on if there are pollution issues. The sensor itself may occasionally malfunction or produce inaccurate results, necessitating replacement.
Loose Fuel Cap
This one is actually quite common. Sometimes you don't tighten the fuel cap all the way (listen for the click), or perhaps you never replaced it in the first place. In any case, it's a simple issue to identify and resolve.
Wiring Issues
There is a lot of wiring from the battery to the spark plug wires and the ignition system in between, this is all necessary for your car to start and keep running smoothly. The check engine light may come on as a result of a loose connection or damaged wire.
Damaged Catalytic Converter
Blocked Fuel Pump
A fuel pump can easily become clogged or dirty overtime to point where it is not able to function correctly. This is a major issue as it has the ability to cut the engine when driving at high speeds
Engine oil
Nut having enough oil or contaminated oil can result is loss of performance ad egine issues which can set off the engine management light. It could be possible that your vehicle just requires an oil change or more serious there could be an oil leak.
